The practical aspects of applying hypnosis are often not included in the curriculums of many so called “Hypnosis Training Institutions”. This is akin to learning to drive a car by reading an instruction manual, and so makes academic and watered down hypnosis training ordinary at best? Students can pay thousands of dollars to read books and and attend lectures of practically worthless academic postulation; then practice a progressive muscle relaxation technique for a day or two before they are given a document that decrees them as a hypnotherapist or a Master Practitioner. It is a sad reality that many who undertake this type of training have in a way been unwittingly duped and may actually have no real idea of how to induce a genuine hypnotic trance let alone how to use it, or what to use hypnosis for.
Below is an email from a student who has already completed a one year training certificate and several other hypnosis workshops with a supposedly accredited hypnosis training organisation. He still didn’t know how to induce hypnosis correctly and even more amazingly he had never experienced hypnosis himself. Neil initially registered to complete the academies on line training and sent this email after receiving his DVDs and training manuals from The Australian Academy of Hypnosis.
Hi Rick. I just wanted to say the DVDs and the training manuals are excellent – I learn’t more watching just one of your training DVDs than I did on my 12 month diploma course. A bit of a worry!! I’m really looking forward to the 5 day Sydney course. I just wanted to ask also – how many people on the actual 5 day course. I have never been hypnotised although I have done several hypno workshops as well as the one year course, so I was wondering what the chances of actually getting work with you would be. It is something I would dearly like to experience especially as I am using it with clients. Figure - if you don’t ask – you will never know!!! Am very passionate about hypnotherapy and helping others … and becoming the best practitioner possible. Regards Neil.
