Somatic Sounds is Dr Guillaume Potard and Megan Sproats. Guillaume is a sound scientist who has a PhD in 3D audio, psychoacoustics and informatics. Somatic Sounds is an innovative Australian company specialising in merging new
technologies with nature to create breakthrough sound products.
Guillaume is considered to be a 3D audio expert by his peers and as he has worked for Dolby over the last five and a half years he has developed a critical listening ability. Megan has a background in health care, healing and the arts. Trained as a rehabilitation nurse, Megan is now a practising energetic healer and reiki practitioner who combines 3D nature sounds with all of her treatments.
They have worked together on innovative audio projects and have award winning artistic projects to their credit. The idea for their latest project, producing a 3D nature sound album, came about while they were living in Sydney for several years near central station. Megan was commuting to work on an over crowded train to then walk on concrete all day, never setting foot on the grass. They were camping every weekend to escape the city and they started recording using their binaural, or 3D, technique the natural world from these trips. Megan would then listen to these sounds while on her commute to work and found she instantly felt like she was back with nature where she recorded the sounds. It made the trip on the train a lot more pleasant and she felt solidly connected to nature through the recordings.
Now residing in Australia’s Royal National Park, south of Sydney, Somatic Sounds draw their creativity and concepts from this environment to develop state-of-the-art sound based inventions, products and services.
They can usually be found most weekends camping and exploring the Australian bush for crystal clear sounds, and that is no easy task!
“Somatic Sounds was created because we are convinced that sound is a powerful remedy for emotional release and can be a dynamic healing modality. Through Somatic Sounds we can share these benefits with you. As individuals we hold a passion for Australia’s rich natural environments and it’s wildlife. ‘Sounds of Australia in 3D’ is the result of our love of nature and our ongoing interests in the immersive qualities of binaural audio. We hope you will enjoy our products as much as we do.”
