Tune Into Sound Healing

Powerful ancient knowledge

Long ago masters of ancient Mystery Schools, together with medicine men and women of many cultures, understood the true power of sound. They had an inner knowing that sound could create both healing and transformation. These healers and Shamans respected the power of sound, and worked with it using traditional musical instruments to create harmonious vibrations. Vocal chanting and mantras were also used to restore the right balance of mind, body and spirit.

Good vibrations

The whole universe is in a state of vibration. Every organism, object and all of the human body is made up of vibrating particles called atoms. These atoms vibrate at their own unique frequency.

Everything that is in a state of vibration has a natural rate at which it vibrates, an optimum range called resonance. When we are in resonance, we are in balance. One of the ways we can use sound to is to recognise that every organ, cell, bone and gland of the body absorbs and emits sound, and has a resonant frequency.

When parts of the body become diseased, they are no longer vibrating at their resonant frequency. These diseased parts cease producing the correct sound waves. Instead of zapping the organ with chemicals, or removing it from the body by surgery, we are able correct the rate of vibration with soundwaves, and bring the body back to a healthy state of resonance. Similar to kidney stones being removed with ultra-sound waves. Sound has also been shown to be effective in the healing process of cancer patients by reducing stress and aiding in pain management.

Soundwave frequencies affect health

The human ear is able to perceive vibrations within a certain range of frequencies which we know as sound. The soundwaves vibrate your eardrum then go to the inner ear and are changed to nerve signals you can sense. The cells of the body enjoy these vibrations. And as the human body is made up of 70%-80% water, this makes it a good conductor of sound. The human ear is only capable of hearing sounds in a narrow range. Despite this, our bodies are capable of absorbing sound outside this range. This means that all soundwave frequencies in our environment, especially the ones we can’t hear such as microwaves and mobile phones, are having an impact on our health.

Energy healing

Sound healing uses vibration, frequency, sound, toning, chanting, song and music to create shifts in the body, mind and spirit. Sound healers understand that physical issues in the body all begin with imbalances in the energy field that surrounds the body.

Sound healing helps the body to relax deeply and allows the mind to release its fixation on stressful thoughts. As you enter into a gentle, dreamy space you are able to release tension and worries, rid yourself of obsessive thinking and even control pain and fear. You will feel lighter and more open – and more able to experience creativity, freedom and insight. It is in this space the body is able to heal and regenerate.

Sound healing today

Today, holistic practitioners, spiritual healers, Reiki masters, Shamans and others who work with many other aspects of alternative medicine, are aware of the powerful healing energy of sound. Sound healing is increasingly being embraced as the oldest, most gentle and most profound method of healing there is.

For a sound healing session you simply lie fully clothed on a treatment or massage table, or on a yoga mat on the floor. The lights are usually dimmed and great effort is made to make you comfortable and relaxed.

Sound instruments

A sound healing session can be one or one with a practitioner, or in a group sometimes called a “Sound Bath”. The sound healer will use various instruments, and sometimes their own voice, to “tone and sound” your body with the intention of bringing you into a state of harmony and health. The following may be used:

  • Tibetan singing bowls
  • Quartz crystal singing bowls
  • Didgeridoo
  • Gongs
  • Rattles, bells and whistles
  • Drums & percussion
  • Flute and wind wands
  • Tuning forks
  • Human voice
  • Specially recorded music or sounds

What are the benefits?

Sound healing offers the possibility of a drug-free way of treating pain and illness, is simple to use and has no harmful side effects. It helps bring the body, mind and emotions back into harmony with our soul or spirit.

People often comment about feeling a sense of peace and calm during and after a sound healing treatment. Some experience the release of blockages and the lessening of physical symptoms. Others say the healing process is ongoing, even days after a treatment. However, most people experience a sound healing treatment as deeply relaxing. And in our fast-paced world, what could be better. Why not try it?

Our Recommendations

We have a number of CDs and MP3s that allow the listener to experience the benefits of sound healing. These all contain different musical instruments or audio levels that help promote an underlying level of deep relaxation/consciousness for the listener. The best thing to do is listen to the audio samples on each product page and find the recording/s that you enjoy listening to the most or help you reach trance levels easiest. Enjoy...
